Extensible Markup Language (XML) is the universal format for data on the Web. While both HTML and XML use “Tags”, HTML tags are used to layout a web page while XML actually provides detailed information about the data items it is tagging. XML has allowed us to tag and deliver rich, structured data from any EDGAR filing. It is easy to understand, read and author. Since XML has no ties to one particular operating system it was the perfect conduit to use for EDGAR Explorer. |
